Suggest Treatment For Depression

Question: AM 36 year old and my wife is 33 years. We had a love marriage and presently we have an 8 year old son. Me and my wife both are doctors ( myself-Orthopaedician and wife-Dentist). However we both are into corporate sector. My wife has work from home option and she works 2-3 hours per day for around 2 weeks a month.
Past few months i feel that my wife is going under depression. She also acknowledges the same, however is unable to cope up with it. She reacts voilently over me, my parents and feels that i have destroyed her career the moment we took work from home option ( around 4 years back). Also she tells sometimes that i am jealous over her.
I am unable to maintain my calmness sometimes but it's not helping any one of us.
Can you guide.

Brief Answer:
Depression needs to be treated.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
From what you have stated it is quite clear that your wife is having a depressive episode. Depression can occur with regular stress and it can also occur biologically without any stress as well. She needs proper treatment for the same. There are various effective therapies for depression like fluoxetine, venlafaxine, bupropion, mirtazapine or escitalopram and they are all very effective and mostly safe. She may also require some benzodiazepines like clonazepam or lorazepam for a short period like 2-3 weeks to reduce the anxiety and help with your sleep. generally I would start my patients on Cap Fluoxetine (Prodep) (20mg) ones a day in the morning along with Tab. Clonazepam (Lonazep MD) 0.5mg at night initially.
If she is averse to the drug therapies then there is also an option of cognitive behavioural therapy. This therapy is taken by either a psychologist or a psychiatrist in which the therapist identifies impaired cognitions (Thoughts) and try to correct them. They are 15-20 min weekly session and there should be around 8-10 sessions to help her with her illness.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
