Suggest Treatment For Depression While Mourning For Death Of Family Member

Question: I am female, age 65, widowed 11 months. The grief process feels like it will never end. I have a support group and it has been helpful. My daughter has turned her back on me. I have good days and bad days. Is there anything I should be doing to come to a happy medium? The ups and downs, seem to be triggered by something, or someone; a memory - good or bad. I feel that I have made improvements but I would like to feel normal - not forget him but have a life. Medication for depression just isn't getting it.

Brief Answer:
Time to go inside yourself

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

I have read your query and can understand your concerns.

From your query, I understand that you are already taking antidepressant, joined a support group. But you feel that your daughter is not with you.
Dealing with grief and loss can be hard but time heals best. Another thing that heals is your own will power to bring you out of the sadness. No other person can do it for you. You have to know that you are gripped by sadness and it is only in your own control to come out of it. Try it and it is good to experience happy moments even for few minutes. Carry a smile even if artificial.

There is a recipe for depression. One is to have lots of free time at hand. Second is to only think about yourself like what will happen of you without your husband, what will become of your husband, and so on. So be aware of the above spiral. Keep yourself busy in social projects. Join a volunteer based organisation or get a job. This will also help in thinking about others rather than yourself.

Getting company, friends or focusing on your hobby like learning music, dancing to your favorite tunes, taking care of pets helps.

Also you need to take care of your diet. Drink lots of cleaner water to flush out toxins. Eat healthy home cooked food.

Everyone dies and one day you will die as well. Death will XXXXXXX you of everything that you love and you dont love. So learn to let go of all this before you die. One way to learn this is by doing relaxation techniques like yog nidra available on youtube or you can do a short course on yoga/meditation. I personally go to Art of living Happiness workshop for my yoga needs.

Hope it helps you. Let me know if you have doubts.
