Question: I am 49 and about 2 months ago went of the pill as I was not sexually active. Since going off the pill I have not had a period. I have recently met someone and I want to start back on the pill as eventough I think I am starting menopause I am still concerned about birth control. My question is do I have to wait till I actually have a period to start back,on the pill or can I start a new pack anytime.

Brief Answer:
Information

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

You can start a pack at any time if it has only been 2 months since the last period. Your next period may be a bit heavier than last time, but I wouldn't expect anything too severe.

However, you may want to see where things are at with your hormones first. You can go in to your doctor to have LH and FSH (luteinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone) levels drawn to see if you are in menopause.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information.
