Suggest Treatment For Dehydration And Diarrhea With Blood And Mucous Discharge

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Mar 2015
Question: Tuesday, my bowels emptied in 2 hours on toilet. It ended up with diarrhea, and bright red blood with mucous. Went to ER due to dehydration. They did a ct scan with contrast of upper and lower. Doc came back with it is bacterial enteritis in the intestines and H-Pylori in the stomach. Gave me meds to take and I came home. Wednesday I passed a blood clot bigger than a 50 cent piece from rectum. It was dark red almost wine color. but when it was touched with a straw bright red would come off. No other bowel movements Wednesday. Today I just passed another blood clot this one was long and thin and dark wine in color with a smudge of poop on outside.
1. Is this normal with enteritis and taking antibiotics to clear it up?
2. The ct scan would have shown crohns and ulcerative colitis and he said mine was infection. Does this sound right?
3. Do blood clots happen at healing?
4. Should I be overly concerned about the clots?

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be Inflammatory bowel disease

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcaremagic
Greetings of the day
Dear Ms

Enteritis / Colitis can be associated with blood clots even in healing phase. Presence of clots and especially if associated with bright red blood suggest Colon as likely source of bleeding.

Diagnosis of Inflammatory bowel disease (Ulcerative Colitis and Crohns ) disease is based on typical CT scan finding and confirmed by histopathology examination. It's unlikely to be any of them .

Blood clots can happen in the healing phase . I hope thorough physical examination was done which included proctoscopy and Digital rectal examination to rule out local cause like Hemorrhoids.

If the clots are not associated with any of the following symptoms then there is no cause for concern

1. Absence of abdominal pain

2. No distension of abdomen

3. Absence of Fever

4. Appetite normal and no nausea

If the clots recur then do consult your physician for thorough clinical examination and assessment.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Wishing you and your family a very happy and healthy life.

Take care

They did rectal exam and no hemorrhoids.

1. I do have abdominal pain. On Tuesday it was a 9 out of 10 scale. Today it is more of a 4 out of 10.
2. I do have some distention
3. no fever
4. No appetite. I will eat small bites of something and that is all.

I have heartburn and it seems to be like a cool burn in intestinal tract moving through.

Symptoms likely to be due Colitis along with Gastroesophageal reflux

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms

Mild pain and distension of abdomen is commonly seen in Colitis and Gastritis , there is nothing to be worried about.

1 Antacid like Pantoprozole along with gastric motility increasing drug like Domperidone will be helpful.

2. Probiotic will be helpful

3. Eat small quantity of meals more frequently

4. Avoid carbonated / alcohol / caffeinated beverage

The appetite should return back to normal.

Thank you so much for your answers. It can be confusing and scary at home when things happen. I have a follow up for you...
1. I have been on antibiotics since Wednesday and tonight I have a slight fever of 99.4 (my normal is around 98.2) Can this be due to the medicine working and fighting the infection? Other than the slight fever and sluggishness I feel much better.
