Suggest Treatment For Dark Circles Under Eyes

Question: Hi,
I have been recently facing an issue with dark circles under my eyes. I moved to XXXXXXX a year back after graduation for a job here. It was only after I moved here that the dark circles became prominent and there is puffness below the eyes. I have been sleeping for 6-7 hours minumum regularly and have average work pressure. I do not smoke or take alcohol, and have not changed eating habits either.
Could you please let me know the possible causes for the sudden growth of dark circles and possible remedies for it?

Brief Answer:
Dark circles undereye

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your concern and i have understood it. I have also seen the photograph.

Dark circles can be quite difficult to treat. Hereditary seems to play a significant role. In allergy prone individuals, a condition or state of 'atopy' exists & these atopic individuals more often than not manifest with 'dark circles' under the eyes.

It also depends a lot on your lifestyle pattern- diet, sleep, computer / TV use and stress and eating/drinking habits like coffee intake and coke/cold drinks etc (both coffee and coke contain a lot of caffeine). Stressors/ Strain due to working for long hours on computers & lack of sleep play a major role too.

In some individuals, Dark circles can also be due to thin under eye skin, the thin skin makes the blood vessels under the skin very prominent and hence this appears dark.

Another important cause of undereye dark circles is Iron deficiency Anemia. As can be judged from some of the reasons cited, good hydration, regular 6-8 hours of sleep, addressing stressors and a multivitamin and Iron supplement by themselves will go a long way in correcting this issue.

The puffiness part is due to leakage of fluid from the capillaries and undereye creams that contain haloxyl specifically address the puffiness.

There are several OTC cream like Avarta Under eye cream (Dr. Reddys'), Fixderma undereye cream, to name a few. Use either of them twice a day for at least 3 months to notice a difference.

There are other options like chemical peeling. Glycolic acid and Arginine peels are the two commonly used peels by dermatologists for undereye dark circles. You can try a few peeling sessions (6-8 sessions) along with the creams
