Question: I had dandruff for the past one year. After doctor's prescription, I've tried KZ shampoo and now dandruff is very much controlled. But I can see more hair loss than before. starting from my childhood I've used only shikakai (a herbal shampoo). So it seems the use of shampoo making loss of hair and I could see thinning of my hair. Please suggest me to overcome the hairfall and hair thinning.
Thinning in the sense density of individual hair.

Following steps should be followed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,

Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:

I can suggest following steps to prevent dandruff, hair fall and thinning:

1) If you have suited with KZ shampoo and dandruff is well controlled, then it is quite good thing. However, you can use SELSUN shampoo if you have itchy scalp or scaly dandruff. It is an alternative option and used 2 times weekly.

2) You have to take or correct certain things to prevent too much hair fall and thinning. These includes:

a) Regularization of monthly period cycle (if NOT regular) and helps to correct hormonal imbalance. Body weight and mental stress should be controlled. Need adequate sleep at night.

b) Take healthy diet (easy digestible) in proper time with more protein, iron, zinc and vitamin B12. Add lean meats, fish, nuts, green vegetables and beans to improve hair density. Bowel habit should be regular. You must avoid too much salty, sugary, fast or fired foods.

c) Scalp massage while you are under shower or doing shampoo. It will improve blood flow and hair growth. Stop using herbal shampoo.

d) Hair dryers, coloring, iron etc should be AVOIDED as much as possible. They will cause more damage to hair. It should be fixed if you have using them.

e) Drug like Minoxidil should be used in case of extreme hair fall or thinning. In some cases, cortisone shot is given. Another dietary supplement, VIVISCAL, can be used to improve your condition. I suggest you to take complete prescription from your dermatologist.

f) Do routine blood tests related with hair fall - Serum Ferritin and Vitamin D. If these are LOW level, they should be treated. Thyroid should be checked.
