default
Posted on Tue, 19 May 2015
Question: My son has had issues with cysts on his scrotum for about 4 years but now is experiencing problems with soft, irregular shaped lumps under the skin on the shaft of his penis. There are 4 of them and they all just appeared in the past week. They can be seen in a cluster above his thumb in the pictures attached. The new lumps are soft and movable under the skin on the shaft.

Brief Answer:
They are multiple Sebaceous cysts.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I saw the pics.
The swellings are multiple Sebaceous cysts which occur in relation to hair follicle.
There is no medical treatment for this.
They have to be removed surgically.
I usually remove these type of lesions under local anesthesia. It can be done as Day care procedure. There is no need for admission.
Please consult your Surgeon and proceed accordingly.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
Regards

I knew the two on the scrotum were cysts but the new cluster on the shaft is presenting differently as they are soft and squishy in irregular shapes. One is rectangular, one is oval and two are round. I cannot find any information on sebaceous cysts that are not round like hard peas.

Brief Answer:
They are typical Sebaceous cysts.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
If you carefully observe the pics, you notice a small hole like thing over the swellings. It is called PUNCTUM which is typical of Sebaceous cyst.
The sebaceous cyst contains paste like material inside, which gives the shape of it.
If there is doubt,I remove the swelling surgically and send it for histopathological examination ( Biopsy ). Exact diagnosis will be confirmed.
Whether it is a Sebaceous cyst or Lipoma (fat deposit),it has to be removed surgically.
Hope I answered your query.
If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
