Suggest Treatment For Cough, Swelling In Ear And Low Grade Fever

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Feb 2015
Question: I have been coughing until I choke for ten days; my ear feels swollen inside and my hearing is diminished. The ear is painful. My eye on the same side of the head is weeping thick slimy stuff. I have blown my nose over and over. But it is more the cough than blowing nose. I am running a very low fever of 99.7. I feel very very tired but have difficulty sleeping because of the coughing and eye and ear pain.

I am trying to weigh the cons and pros on trying a different medication for my atrial tachacardia or having surgery to end it. Please advise me on both sides of the issue.Thank you

Brief Answer:
you must be having URTI.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM.
In my opinion you are having severe upper respiratory tract infection (URTI).
Your all symptoms like coughing, blowing nose, low grade fever, swollen ear etc are suggestive of severe URTI.
So better to follow these steps for quick relief.
1. Avoid oily and spicy food.
2. Avoid hard to chew food. It will increase friction in posterior pharyngeal wall.
3. Drink plenty of fluids. Keep yourself hydrated.
4. Warm water gargles 5-6 times a day.
5. Start antihistamine and anti inflammatory drugs.
6. Start broad spectrum antibiotic too.
All these drugs are prescribed medicines, so better to consult doctor and get the prescription.
About your second issue, I suggest to consult cardiologist and get done electro physiological study to determine whether surgery is helpful in your case or not.
Not all atrial tachycardia are benefitted by surgery. You need to first get done electro physiological study and discuss about need of surgery in your case with cardiologist.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
