Question: Hello Doctor, my daughter (3 Yr old) has Cough & cold (a lot). Her doctor has prescribed Syp. XXXXXXX Junior (Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide IP 5 mg, Chlorpheniramine Maleate 2mg) and Syp. Maxtra (Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 5 mg, Chlorpheniramine Maleate 2mg). Not much improvement in 2 days. Also, coughing is still there (sporadic). The Doctor is travelling now and not reachable. My question is: Doctor had recommended her Kufril LS drops for coughing (Levosalbutamol 0.25 mg, Ambroxol 7.5 mg, Guaiphenesin 12.5 mg) and was helpful. Can I give her the same along with above 2 syrups? Thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
yes but only one of the first two

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Cold and.cough is usually viral and is common in children every 2 to 3 months.
This is absolutely normal and.no need to worry.
You can continue kufril along with maxtra.
But don't give XXXXXXX as both XXXXXXX and maxtra contain chlorpheniramine.
If your child is improving symptomatically then no problem.
It should settle in a couple of days.
If worsening consult your nearby pediatrician.
Wishing your child good health.

Thanks a lot for your prompt help and advice. Just one more question. Can I give her Nukast-4 syrup as well (for stuffy nose).

I will also search for nearby doctor as her coughing/ cold has not subsided much in last 2 days...

Thanks again...

Brief Answer:
nukast 4 is preventive for allergy

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Nukast 4 is monteluekast which is anti allergic medicine given as prevention for few months in kids with allergy.
You can continue that if your doctor had prescribed.
It needs to be given for a month atleast to show some benefit.

The question was about cough/ cold of my daughter which was not coming down. Actually even now, its there. Our doctor has suggested to use Tyxilix new syrup. Please advise if you would suggest any other medicine.
Thanks,

Brief Answer:
tyxilix is good

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Tyxilix is good medicine for cough.
You can use it if your doctor has prescribed after examining her.
Sometimes cough continues for 2 weeks after a viral episode.
This will settle gradually.
If no improvement consult your doctor again to rule out chest infection or allergic bronchitis.

Dr Arun
