Posted on Mon, 14 Nov 2016
Question: I went t the bathroom this morning, I was constipated and tried to go, while sitting and pushing, very hard, I started to urinate. Afterward I felt a little pain in the penis and when I stood up, I was shocked to see that I was bleeding. I then took tissue and applied pressure until pain and bleeding subsided. Thought it was over. Went to the men's room and urinated. Pain returned along with some blood. Is surgery required and should I head to the ER ?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.

As per the history of constipation, straining, your age all indicate towards prostatic congestion increasing on straining causing this.

Yes, it will be wise to head towards ER for the following:
Tests of urine, blood.
Ultrasonography of the abdomen particularly for genito-urinary system.
Per-rectal digital examination of the prostate and of urethra to see for possible congestion, nodule, swelling of so.
Take plenty of water orally.
Take mild laxative to keep the stools soft.
