default
Posted on Wed, 13 Jul 2016
Question: Hello Dr XXXXXXX ...

My son is 5 yrs old & has suddenly developed runny nose since today morning. I want to treat him immediately as his immune system is a little weak (he is a pre-mature baby, born just after completion of the 8th month). He had suffered from Whooping cough last year & treated successfully. He weighs around 16 kgs only.

Kindly advice !!

Brief Answer:
No need to give antibiotic

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Can understand your concerns.

Running nose can occur due to weather change.

If it is recurrent then allergic rhinitis needs to be ruled out.

Since, only running nose is present and there is no fever, chances of infection is very less.

In my opinion, you should give sinarest syrup (chlorpheniramine, phenylephrine, paracetamol) 5 ml three times a day for 2 days.

Avoid cold drinks, icecream and cold water.

I hope this will help you.
Wishing your child good health.
Take care.
