Question: I have a constant headache that started Wednesday morning. I went to the ER an was told it was probably the flu even though a nose swab was negative. I tried eating yesterday and vomited it all up this morning followed by dry heaves. I have no cough, no sinus congestion, no cold-like symptoms. How long can I expect this to continue if it is the flu?

Brief Answer:
Information

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

This does not sound like influenza to me. Influenza is notable for a cough and fever - and usually body aches and symptoms of a really bad cold and sometimes headache. As influenza is caused by a respiratory virus, it is a respiratory infection, so there is a cough and almost always a fever.

So this does not sound like flu to me.

I don't know if the vomiting is from the medicines you were given or the headache - both are possible. Migrainous headaches are especially prone to causing nausea, but any headache if long enough or severe enough can cause nausea. So can the meds you were given, though.

I think you need further evaluation of this headache. If you have never had a headache like this before, it warrants imaging studies (such as CT or MRI).

I will assume you are not having excessively high blood pressure as (hopefully) the ER staff would have noted that.

Here is what I recommend:
If the headache is tolerable, call your doctor's office first thing tomorrow and ask to talk with your doctor's nurse. Tell him or her this history. Request to be seen promptly.

If the headache is severe still, or you continue to have nausea, go back to the ER. If there is a university ER near you, that may be your best bet in terms of getting knowledgeable staff to evaluate you.

But, I agree - this does not sound like influenza.

Hi, I'm a female of 18 5'2" weight 110 pounds or less and run everyday . I recently donated blood in case this can effect it. But lately I've been getting constant headaches, everytime I walk up steps my heart beats really fast like above normal (I'm pre-med) so it's like pretty fast . When I run it beats normally, but if I do a simple task it goes crazy also I start to feel like I'm going to faint. What do you think it is?

My friend has been sick for a while now. His doctor isn t quite sure what is wrong with him, so maybe you can help. His symptoms include a constant headache, stomach ache, and now vomiting and bloody noses. His doctor gave him medicine for the flu, which he had an allergic reaction to, so now he has hives too, which is also making it a little more difficult to breathe. His family can t afford to go to the hospital or to keep seeing doctors. Do you have any ideas of what is wrong with him or what he can do at home to try and take care of himself?

Hello. I'm a 20 year old male who recently (about a month ago) suffered from a Peritonsillar Abscess. About four days ago, I woke up with severe pain in my upper left flank. For the last 48 hours or so, my right testicle also appears quite swollen, tender to the touch and it pulses occasionally which causes pain, I can feel the "bag of worms" I've read about online, and it is hanging much lower than the left one. As well, I have been unable to sleep for three days and am suffering from tingling all over my extremities, minor spasms, exceedingly dry throat and bleeding gums (my teeth feel loose too), dark, cloudy odorous urine, the need to urinate frequently, a slight fever, a constant headache, and my mental state is rapidly deteriorating (i.e. becoming increasingly forgetful, irritable, etc.). I take creatine, adderall, drink alcohol occasionally, and hardly smoke. I'm in good shape too.

Diagnosis is low grade follicular lymphoma. CT shows no obviously enlarged lymph nodes but # has increased in multiple regions. Pt has unrelenting pain, 6-8/10 in bilateral axillary, and groin regions and constant headache. Is the pain from the 1cm lymph nodes or something else? How would you treat the pain?
