Suggest Treatment For Constant Fever And Nasal Congestion In A Child
Question: My 5 year old has had a fever of 103 for 6 days now. I took her to the doctor twice and they did a strep test which was negative. She is lethargic and has lots of nasal congestion but no other symptoms. Should I take her back to the doctor for bloodwork or just wait?
Brief Answer:
You should visit the doctor and get the bloodwork done.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone carefully through the complaints and understand your concerns. Most often fevers and respiratory tract infections are due to viral cause. But the lethargy concerns me. I think you should take her back to the doctor and get the bloodwork done. In case she is not lethargic, you can wait for a day or two and if the fever still persists, you should definitely visit the doctor and get the bloodwork done.
Giving steam inhalation should be helpful.
Regards

Okay- by lethargic I mean that she generally seems sick and just wants to lay on the couch. Would this be what you would describe as lethargic?
Brief Answer:
That will count as lethargic.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. That will count as lethargic. But your own assessment also counts. If she does not seem too ill, you can wait for a day or two and see if the fever still persists. If she seems quite ill, please do not wait any further.
Feel free to write back in case of further queries, if any.
