Suggest Treatment For Concussion And Head Injury

Question: Hello,

I am trying to remain anonymous because this is soooo embarrassing, but I was at a concert this past weekend and I slipped and fell; I was in the bathroom at the time. When my friends finally found me, they thought I had 'passed out' drunk. It was true that I was pretty tipsy, but I remember going into the bathroom and falling when I was reaching for a paper towel after washing my hands. Then I woke up at home. I have no memory of leaving the concert or being driven home. The side of my head is still very tender and it hurts my temple to chew (on one side). The problem is... all of the symptoms for a concussion are basically the same as being drunk. So I'm in a conundrum, and also completely humiliated. Should I go to urgent care and tell a doctor about this (please no, I just want to forget) or just wait for it to go away?

Thanks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

I`m sorry but you should visit ER. Tenderness of your head and pain while chewing indicates that the hit was pretty strong. There might be some skull fractures. And as there is fractures possibility, the strength of the injury was enough to cause internal bleeding.
Some symptoms of internal bleeding are nausea, vomiting, dizziness, uneven pupils.
However some bleeding can give no symptoms at all.
So even if it is embarrassing, your life is more important. So please do not risk and visit ER or your doctor as soon as possible. Head CT is necessary.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Thank you for your response. I will seek treatment as soon as possible. What kind of treatment can I expect if there is an injury?

Detailed Answer:
Well, first of all you need to be diagnosed. I do not assume that you have internal bleeding, I just want you to be sure you dont have it.
And even if there is small bleeding, in most cases lying in bed is the treatment and another head CT for about day or two.
In case of serious bleeding, skull can be temporarily opened.
