Suggest Treatment For Cold In Infant
Question: Hello Dr.
1st baby is having cold. His current age is 5 months and 17 days.
Dr. has suggested below medications for COLD. please confirm if below medications are recommended and proper.
-Syrup Maxtra P
syrup Alernyl B+
Tab. Zisi
Also Current weight for both babies are:
1st baby: 5.9 Kg
2nd Baby: 5.7 Kg
where 2 months back the weight was 5.4kg [1st baby] and 5.2 kg [2nd baby].
From this i understand that the weight gain is not good. please suggest if we need to change any diet/feed plan for them.
Current feeds are:
1. NAN Pro1 -. 3-4 times a day [90-120 ml]
2. Cerelac: [wheat, rice] 2 times a day.
3. rice water : 1 time a day
4. Mother's milk in beetween.
Also please suggest if we can start COW milk for both babies.

Hi....coming to your queries one by one-
1. I think it's Tablet Zifi and nor Zisi. Its an antibiotic cefixime. It doesn't work for upper respiratory infections. Moreover 95% of kid's infections are viral. They don't require antibiotics. Rest of the medicines are OK.
2. I would like to comment on the weight and diet after knowing their birth weights. As of Now both the babies weights are in the range of 5-10th centiles. That's perfectly normal. So do not worry.
3. I do not advice to start cows milk till 1 year atleast to avoid the risk of cow's milk protein allergy.
