Suggest Treatment For Cold Feet In An Elderly Person

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Mar 2017
Question: Hello, I have one cold foot - it is cold when sitting or laying - better but not resolved with standing or walking. No calf pain. No swelling or color changes, no lesions. Cold for about one year and driving me nuts. U/S by tech last year normal; sx's worsening. I hang the leg over edge of bed at night, put it up on something a little higher than floor when at desk. I am a 53-year-old ARNP, regularly exercise, never smoker, A1c 5.1, no hypertension. Family hx stroke (father, paternal grandmother). Frustrated. The coldness is VERY distracting and makes sleep difficult. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Nervous system involvement to consider.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Since vascular surgeon didn't found something suspicious about vascular pathology of your foot, nervous system involvement should be considered.

Since you refer about issues with your low back, a pinched nerve should be evaluated further.

MRI of your lumbar spine is necessary in such cases.

Peripheral nerves involvement (compression syndromes ) also should be assessed further with a nerve conduction study and EMG of the affected foot.

Please discuss with your Doctor about getting these examinations done.

Treatment depends on diagnosis.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
