Question: I just came home from a cruise late Saturday night. Sunday afternoon I started to have symptoms of a cold, with cough, sneezing and swollen tonsils. Last night I broke out in an itchy rash, mainly on my torso, but also slightly on my extremities.

Brief Answer:
viral exanthem

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Most likely you have gotten a viral upper respiratory infection. There is commonly a rash that goes with this called a viral exanthem. It will leave once the infection passes.
If you have fever, severe sore throat, productive cough or shortness of breath you should see a doctor right away.
Otherwise the antihistamine is good for the itching with the rash and may help some with runny nose if you have that.
Drink plenty of fluids and take the antihistamine daily. If you develop new symptoms or are not getting better in 7-10 days then see a doctor.
I hope you are better soon,
Dr. Robinson
