Question: I just recovered from two very bad s in succession cold with lots of coughing. I noticed that I would get mild pain on the left side of my head from the coughing and thought I strained something from all the coughing. Anyway, my cold is starting to improve nicly, but I have a constant headache on the left side now.
I'm 57 and normally don't get headaches.a

Brief Answer:
see your doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
In some cases you can strain a muscle or break a small vessel in the skin of the head from so much coughing. These should resolve on their own but if the pain is constant and you usually do not have headaches then you should see your doctor right away for a complete neurological exam to make sure that there is no other cause for your headache. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and avoid caffeine and alcohol because they can make headaches worse. If you have any nausea or blurry vision these could be concerning signs and if that develops you should go to Emergency right away.

No vision or nausea symptoms. I just took 2 Alleve and it has dulled considerably.
I recently and abruptly stopped Sudafed, mucinex, and Claritin, because my cold improved so much. I was taking these for almost 2 weeks. Could that be a cause?
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
could be the sudafed

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for the follow up.
It could be the sudafed. Sudafed is a pretty strong stimulant and taking it for 2 weeks then stopping abruptly could trigger headaches. If that is the cause it should ease off after a few weeks. Good luck to you and I hope you get some relief soon. If you do not or if new symptoms occur make sure to see a doctor right away
