Suggest Treatment For Cold And Flu

default
Posted on Wed, 5 Nov 2014
Question: I thought my daughter had a cold or flu but none of the OTC medications are working (ie: XXXXXXX Selzer flu and Nyquil severe cold). Her nasal mucus is now thick and green which I think indicates a nasal infection, meaning only antibiotics can cure this. I want to know if I'm on the right track. I live in Florida and she moved in a few weeks ago. We battle with the a/c since I'm going through the change and need cool and she has always liked it hot.

Brief Answer:
It is due to bacterial infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcaremagic
Greetings of the day
Dear Ms

Thick and green mucus definitely indicates infection especially secondary bacterial infection .
Exposure to cold air as in case of air conditioning will aggravate her symptoms.

I would suggest the following for your daughter

1. Steam inhalation : Preferably using electronic steamer. 15 minutes each session thrice a day . It will help reducing the viscosity of secretions and also decrease nasal congestion.

2. Antibiotics : I would suggest Azithromycin , which can either be procured over the counter or in consultation with your Physician.

3. Continue giving the previous medication.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take care
