Brief Answer: Look at Tonsils, Adenoids and Ear infections Detailed Answer: Hello XXXXXXX My name is Vinay. Let me see if I can help you decide what needs to be done for your son. Children in this age group are prone to coughs and colds as they have a tendency to put things in their mouths (it's actually a good sign of neurological development when they do that, even though it scares us adults). So the body has provided children in this age group with a special set of glands in the thoat and back of the nose. These glands are called the Tonsils, and the Adenoids. As we age, the tonsils will shrink and eventually disappear in later life, same with the adenoids. But in children, they are big and they contain many many white blood cells (the cells which fight infections). Unfortunately in a small percentage of children, the Tonsils, or the adenoids THEMSELVES will get infections and the infections will just sit there and cause colds coughs and sore throats at a high frequency. Also, they can lead to middle ear infections (as the ear is connected to the throat by a tube called the Eustachian tube). All in all the reason I am telling you all this is that I suspect this may be the case with your son. What you need to do is take him to the pediatrician or to an ENT specialist (Ear, Nose and Throat) and have them examine him. They will be able to confirm my suspicions or rule them out. The next line of enquiry I would pursue is to see if your son is suffering from any allergies. Have there been any changes in his environment? New Sheets? New clothes? Have the Airconditioning vents and filters in his room been cleaned? Mold and spores can cause such symptoms and the BEST way of dealing with it is to eliminate the mold and spores. There are also some allergy meds that can be given in syrup form that will help him if that is the case. ENT doctors can help you out with these issues as well I hope I have helped you out a bit. Let me know what is going on with him and feel free to follow-up with me any time you would like. Thanks for coming to HealthCareMagic.com
