Suggest Treatment For Cold And Cough
Question: Hi dr. My baby is 3 months and 9 days old. Bec of rainy climate i caught cold. I only motherfeed her no extra food fr her. Bec of tat she too caught cold. She is caughing. While she breatheni feel noise in her nose may b mucus formed there. Wat i want to do now? Should i try medicine? Or i should stop motherfeed n switch to formula milk?

Ideally baby needs to see doctor, as babies are always in lying position and there cough is not good enough to throw out the mucus.So airways get plugged.
Steam inhalation, applying warm cloth to chest and putting nasomist saline drops in nose can help.
But if the blockage increase or is significant right now then baby needs nebulisation.Doctor can suggest medications depending on weight of baby.
Seeing doctor will also help to rule out if there is chest infection as well.
Dont stop breast feeding, if baby baby is unable to suck milk due to blocked nose, then you can squeeze out milk and feed baby with spoon.Do burping after feeding, by holding baby along your chest in upright position and then XXXXXXX the babies back to remove air swallowed during feeding.This limits vomiting, particularly in coughing baby.
Dont switch to formula milk.
Keep the room environment warm.
For you - avoid medications, try warm milk with turmeric powder, warm salt water gargles, steam inhalation, hot soups , increase rest and water intake.
