Question: Hi Doctor,

I recently came to know about my father's health state while he went to local city hospital for cold & cough treatment which was exist for around 2 week and not resolved automatically, doctor found S creatinine level around 5 given 10days medicine and said if doesn't improve he will refer to XXXXXXX and in between his condition goes bad then we immediately went to XXXXXXX and admitted here doctors suggested for immediate dialysis that we refused and asked for medication treatment but they still advised, meanwhile he felt loss of appetite since last 3 months, my question is that does dialysis is only option for patient who's kidney not functioning well ? is the CKDs5 reversible? history is no BP problem, no diabetic, not any permanent medicine, only had TB (1 yrs)which was cured 3 yrs back.

Brief Answer:
advanced renal failure needs dialysis support

Detailed Answer:

Hi XXXXXXX

since your father was symptomatic for past three months with low appetite- it is a sign of kidney disease. kidney disease goes through several stages and till stage 4 we can treat with medicines. once the creatinine level is above 7.0 or patient is having vomitings and poor appetite, we need to start dialysis treatment to save the patients life by removing the waste chemicals from the body. meanwhile effort is made to see if we can restart the patients original kidneys.

Most important tests in this regard are ultrasound of the kidneys , urine routine test and KFT and Hemogram,- if you can provide these reports i can give you a better answer regarding reversibility of disease.

In any case don't be afraid of dialysis. it is a pretty easy out patient treatment.
But if a patient needs dialysis and we delay it , patient develops complications which are difficult to control.

And yes patients without diabetes and hypertension can get kidney disease.

Best wishes.
