Question: My doctor prescribed spironolactone for me. Got prescription filled and started taking dose. He had his nurse call me and tell me not to take it. I have degenerative heart failure. Why would he change his mind?
I am 88 yrs. old and have chronic urethritis.

Can you tell me why he may have had second thoughts?

Brief Answer:
Contraindications for use of spirinolactone

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic for your health concern

The reasons for absolutely not using spirinolactone include reduced renal function, high levels of potassium in your body, if you are on other medications like ACE inhibitors, eplerenone, lithium etc.
Other possible cause for discontinuing spirinolactone could be too much lowering of blood pressure.
It is best to discuss with your treating physician regarding why was the spirinolactone discontinued in your particular scenario
Do not continue spirinolactone unless you discuss with your doctor regarding this. Your doctor must have estimated the risk of taking spirinolactone is greater than benefits.

Hope this answers your questions
