Question: Hi. I am 28 year old. Have been smoking for about 5-6 years.
I have always had tonsils problem since childhood. Last week, all of a sudden I had throat infection with white spots on them, difficult to swollen saliva as well, fever, chills.. I have quit smoking since then. I started taking ciplox500mg & sinarest as I do everytime I get tonsils since I was a kid. It got little better and 4th day it got really worst.. I went to an ENT. He mentioned there has been ups and infection.. He game me antibiotic through IV for two days and then signofam and Allegra for 5 days.. He did a swab test and gave for culture. Results will be out in 2 days.. I am on 5th day of antibiotics.. And da white spots have all gone.. No fever, no chills, no problem in swilling as well.. But I feel lil tightness in my lower throat, and feel like chewing on something all da time.. Is it nicotine withdrawal symtomps? Or is somethin serious.. I have been worried a lot and lot.. Have anxiety thinking I have cancer.. I don't have any lump newhere in my throat or neck.. But my right tonsil is bigger than left.. Noticed it since da infection.. Kindly help..

Brief Answer:
You are having chronic follicular tonsillitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.

I have read your query , reviewed your medications and understand your concern.

As per your clinical history it appears that you are having chronic follicular tonsillitis.

If I were your treating doctor, I would advice you

Antiseptic chlorhexidine Mouth Wash twice daily ,
Plenty of fluids ,
Tab Ranitidine & Tab Vitamin C twice daily.

Continue antibiotic , signofam and Allegra .

Tightness in lower throat is not because of nicotine withdrawal or cancer. It is common in URTI (Upper Respiratory tract infection ) & acid reflux. Also you don't have any lump in neck or throat .

It is common to have one tonsil bigger than other in chronic tonsillitis .

To rule out cancer phobia i suggest to do videolaryngoscopy of throat & larynx from your ENT Specialist.
Also consider Tonsils removal if chronic tonsillitis disturbing your routine life .

Hope this information helpful to you .If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Regards.
