Suggest Treatment For Chronic Sinusitis

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Aug 2017
Question: Hi, my husband (now age 74) has had a chronic condition for the past several year that afflicts him to some extent year-round. His sinuses are apparently some way involved but no cause or effective treatment has been discovered. Antihistamines and other meds used for sinus problems and/or allergies are ineffective. He has continuing nasal drip, causing constant sniffling. His head feels foggy, his ears "feel funny" and when it is at its worst all he do is lie down flat on his back - which works, but only for as long as he is prone. He sees an ear specialist once or twice a year to get wax cleaned out - there is always a significant build-up. His GP referred him to another ear/nose/throat specialist 3 or 4 years ago - no help. This condition is present daily but intensity fluctuates quite a bit and activity (walks, gym) often makes it worse. Lately esp. troublesome though no change in habits. He often has to bend forward at a steep angle to make it tolerable when walking or upright.

Brief Answer:
Chronic sinusitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HealthcareMagic and thanks for putting up the query.

All the symptoms are suggestive of chronic sinusitis with nasal deviation. The ear symptoms are likely to be due to eustachian tube blockage due to nasal pathology.

He should get a CT scan paranasal sinuses done and please send me the pictures for review.

Meanwhile, he may take a combination of Levocetirizine and Pseudoephedrine twice daily and Fluticasone nasal spray twice daily for a week.

Take steam inhalation twice to thrice daily.

All the medicines I have prescribed will be available by prescription only.
Please follow up with the required information so that I can suggest you better.

Take care
Thanks and regards
