Used to be only noticed after long periods of sitting up straight like a long drive. Have golf ball size tender bump in area. Mentioned to several drs and they just blow it off . had CT scan of abdomen with negative results. Getting worse daily, beginning to control my life. Suggestions?

Brief Answer:
as explained in details.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
To recapitulate: Male/64 - Xiphoid process area - chronic pain - 20 years - long drive - sit ups straights - golf ball size tender bump - CT negative - controlling life...

My thoughts after reading your history:
- This may be Chondritis of the Xiphoid process, mass formation due to chronic nature of 20 years duration.
- High resolution ultrasound would find out the correct diagnosis.
- Clinical evaluation and examination and if required local MRI examination would confirm the diagnosis.
- 3 weeks course of an anti-inflammatory, oral steroid if you are not diabetic would help.
If not, then a surgery to remove the lump and the xiphoid process would be diagnostic as well as therapeutic.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
