Suggest Treatment For Chronic Pain In The Abdominal Area
Question: Last night, some chronic pain that I have been having worsened to a new level. I have had pain in my right side. The epicenter of my pain seems to be a point in the right abdomen between my ribs and my hip bone. It is painful to the touch and from the inside, as well. The pain can extend upward from there to my stomach and downward in a line to my knee. Last night it woke me up from my sleep and I also had explosive diarrhea with it. My insides felt like they were twisting and burning. The membranes in my eyes, respiratory system, vagina, lower digestive track are also often dry and scratchy. I have no idea if that is in anyway related to the pain problem. Gall bladder, appendix issues have been ruled out. I am 60, female, have asthma and Hashimotos. I also have sliding hiatal hernia. I don't know whether to keep going down the diagnostic trail. I had thought of pursuing idea of it being amplified pain syndrome simply because I don't know of anything else it could be. Last night's episode was so extreme that I am not sure.
Brief Answer:
infection of the gastrointestinal tract.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing your query.
Since your pain was accompanied by a bout of explosive diarrhea, you might be having infection of the gastrointestinal tract.
I would suggest a stool examination along with a Complete Blood Count ( CBC ).
You may take an antacid like Omeprazole 40mg once a day before meals along with a probiotic for relief. An antibiotic and antiamoebic may be added if the reports suggest infection.
Eat light meals prepared under hygienic conditions. Also take care of your hydration.
I hope this is helpful to you. If you have any further query, I will be happy to help.
Regards. Thanks.

P. This pain began over a year ago with diarrhea. The diarrhea subsided and the pain became lesser but chronic. A physical therapist kept finding a lump near the cecum, but nothing alarming showed on a ct scan.
The pain was at its worst last night, but I think it is going back down in intensity.. Could I have a chronic infection?
Again, thank you.
