Suggest Treatment For Chronic Myeloid Leukemia

Question: Hello Dr.,
My Aunt is diagnosed as having CML (Chronic Myeloid Leukemie).
Wanted to know that what are the chances of cure of this disease and what are the effective treatments available for this disease and how long it takes to recover?
Are there any side-effects of these treatments?

Thanks for your query.

I understand your concern. However CML has got many effective treatments now. These medicines like imatinib have to be taken lifelong and the disease can be controlled.

But this is usually not considered to be cured as if the medicine is stopped then the disease comes back in majority.

Side effects are there but manageable. We have many patients on this for years and doing well. Within a month she will be feeling better and by one year there will be very good control.
