Suggest Treatment For Chronic Diastolic Heart Failure In A Person With High BP

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Jul 2016
Question: I read on my heart doctor's print out that I have chronic diastolic heart failure which they have never mentioned to me? So what should I be doing to try & manage this condition to live as long as possible for those who depend on me? my blood pressures goes up over 200/90 mostly at bedtime. I have tried to take my 80 mg Diovan at the same time each morning & again at 8pm along with avoiding any stimulants such as coffee tea fried foods--eating lean chicken & fruit: and for the past 4 days my blood pressure seems to be more under control. I live on the edge fearful that my blood pressure will spike in the evening like it die 6/25/16 at the ER when it went to 232/100 & the doctor was not summoned or something happened for when I was not treated other than monitored; I asked to leave after 3 hours in the wee hours of the morning!

I would explain as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that at your age it is not a rare finding to have some degree of diastolic dysfunction.

Nevertheless, you do not have to worry too much about it!

The most important thing to to do is to better control your blood pressure and any potential signs of systolic venous congestion (edema).

I would recommend optimizing your anti-hypertensive therapy and to consider the possibility of starting any diuretic drugs for relieving your shortness of breath.

I would be glad to review your cardiac ultrasound reports, if you can upload them for another second professional opinion.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
