Question: My 2.8yrs daughter is suffering from chronic constipation problem. This problem is persist from last two year. We have consulted with many doctor but its seems no improvement. My daughter digest all the laxative medicines prescribe by those doctors (Duphalac/Laxopeg). They also advise for high fiber diet and we followed as well but the result is not yet expected. Now the situation is too much serious. Her bowel frequency reduces by once in a week with lot of shout and cry. Last week we found some blood clot with her stool. We rush to the doctor and she said it is fissure. She again suggest all the same medicines. Now the situation is we are used Dulcolax, no more laxative medicines are worked for her. Please suggest we are in deep trouble.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Mr XXXXXXX
Being a parent myself I understand your concern and apprehensions.
Constipation is widely prevalent problem in children.
The blood in stools is likely to be due to hard stools impacted in the rectum causing injury. She will require retention Enema to help in evacuation of stools. Oral laxatives alone are unlikely to be helpful.

I would suggest you to consult Pediatric Surgeon for further assessment and management. Do not worry thing can be taken care off.
Do keep me updated.

2. Ensuring adequate intake of water: One cup of plain water 1 hour before and one hour after feeds will ensure adequate intake of water which will help in making the consistency of stools soft
