default
Posted on Thu, 27 Apr 2017
Question: A flu went through my family 4 days ago (vomitting and diarrhea) Yesterday i had chills and bad diarrhea and thought it was likely that flu but i never had the vomitting. i noticed the day before that i had really loud musical bowel sounds. Both yesterday and today i have a feeling like there is a lead weight in my stomach and i burp a lot. Yesterday i had some soup and a banana. Today i had a bit of watermelon but felt awful after eating. i am not throwing up but feel bloated and nauseated. i figure it is the flu but want to make sure and i don't want to go into a Dr.s office and give it to someone else if it is contagious.

Brief Answer:
infection to GI tract moslt likely

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query on HealthcareMagic,

I do understand your pain and discomfort.

As per your clinical history is concerned, it seems like an infection due to virus and spread through contaminated food and water, so please do check your stool to ruled out bacterial infection present or not. So if it is confirmed then take ORS solution after every motion which is available in every drug store without any prescription. If despite this, there's any sign of dehydration present then you can take saline drip also.

Add a probiotic lactobacillus to normalize intestinal flora. Avoid milk and dairy products, caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, and fatty or highly seasoned foods for a few days. Gradually begin to eat bland, easy-to-digest foods, such as soda crackers, toast, gelatin, bananas, rice and chicken.

Wash your hands using warm water and soap and use instant hand sanitizer to prevent reinfection to other family members. Avoid sharing eating utensils, glasses, and plates and use separate towel and garments in the washroom. Disinfect hard surfaces with mixture of two cups of bleach to one gallon of water. If you have small kids at home then talk with your doctor for vaccination.

Hope this helps, feel free to ask further.
Regards
