Suggest Treatment For Chest Pain With Heart Palpitations

Posted on Wed, 8 Jun 2016
Question: Hi

I have been having some chest pain mostly when sleeping along with some palpitations at times. Upon seeing my ECG it mentions I have a short PR interval. Could the short PR interval be causing both the chest pain and palpitations?

Brief Answer:
There is very little probability

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I tried to calculate PR on your ECG, it is borderline PR.
Usually it doesn't cause chest pain, and there is very small probability that your palpitations are caused by the borderline PR.
If your palpitations are frequent, I would advise you to have a holter monitoring done, it is an examination when 24 hour ECG is registered with a small device. So we can find out what's going on during your complaints of palpitations, whether there is an arrhythmia, or it is just your normal heart rate slightly elevated.

Wishing you good health

Hi there
Thanks for your opinion and viewing the ECG
The palpitations do not happen often. Maybe a few times a day, more double beats I believe are PAC
Had normal tread mill test, Echo, had holter which showed some palpitations and short run of SVT 8-10 beats at speed of 91 beats.
Had an event monitor that showed atrial premature beats.
Another doctor mentioned it may be caused by anxiety. Could this be the case?

Brief Answer:
Welcome back

Detailed Answer:
Small amount of PACs could be caused by anxiety, theoretically a short run of SVT could be caused by anxiety too.
Anyway such amount of PACs and non frequent short SVT runs are not dangerous.
Don't worry, just live your regular life, don't smoke and don't drink much caffeine, follow healthy lifestyle and don't focus on palpitations.

Take care

Hi there
Thanks for the feedback
What is your opinion about the chest pain at night when sleeping. It is localized on the left side around the pec area. It's not costocondritis as I felt for inflammation and there is none.
Could it also be related to anxiety or nothing cardiac as all other cardiac tests have been normal so far?

Welcome back

Detailed Answer:
Chest pain could be a simple muscle pain. Also chest pain in young adults are frequently caused by spine problems. I would advise you to have spine X Rays done.

Take care
