Brief Answer:
Cervical spondylosis may be causing cracking sound

Detailed Answer:
Hi,XXXX

Thanks for your query.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

After going through your query I concluded that you may be having cervical spondylosis (degenerative changes in cervical spine) as it is common in your age. In this osteophytes(bony outgrowths/spur)are there and these causes cracking sounds from the back of your neck during movements. This also leads to narrowing of spinal canals due to these outgrowth called cervical stenosis. I think whiplash injury does not generally causes cracking sounds.
You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Wishing you good health.
Take care.

I fell face first over 3 months ago, causing the whip lash. The cracking noices started then. With my pain and spasms getting worse and more deabilitating should it eventually heal itself. Also should I get cortisone shots in the neck for the pain?

Brief Answer:
Whiplash may have separated osteophytes.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.

After going through your query and follow up query I think that due to whiplash one or more osteophytes broken(separated from bone) leading to start of cracking voices and also pain and spasm.Injury must have healed in three months but degeneration process is there. I treat such persons coming to my clinic empirically by
1.Diacerine and glucosamine sulfate to reduce cartilage degeneration and promote regeneration.
2.Neurotropics such as methylcobalamin
3.Analgesics such as tramadol for pain relief.
4.Muscle relaxant such as thiocholchoside.
5.Sometimes steroid shot(Triamcilone) when pain and spasm is more with good results. You can take cortisone shots in the neck for pain relief. You can discuss with your Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.If you have no clarification then you can close the query and rate the answer.

Wishing you good health.
Take care.
