Brief Answer:
Cellulitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

From the description you have given me it looks like your brother in law has cellulitis of the leg.
Here is what you should do

1. He has to be treated with antibiotics. I treat my patients with Augmentin three times a day along with clindamycin twice a day. It gives good results
2. Keep the leg dry at all times
3. Cleaning the wound with Betadine with a clean gauze piece and applying Mupirocin ointment once a day will help
4. Please approach a surgeon soon for investigation and treatment

The o2 status is very low, I recommend that he is on night time oxygen. Ask your GP for a o2 machine, in our country it can be either bough or rented.

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Regards

Brief Answer:
Will need IV antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for getting back, I am sorry for the short delay in my response, I was on call at my hospital.

MERSA is a good possibility, especially if you are able to see the bone. I strongly recommend that he is followed up by a good surgeon for this. The best response to this with be with culture senstivie antibiotics given for atleast 7 days. Some patients would even require amputation depending on how bad the wound is

I hope I was of help
