Suggest Treatment For Cellulitis Around The Nose And Face

Question: I went to the Dr. two days ago and was diagnosed with cellulitis in the area of my nose that was spreading to my cheek and upper lip. He prescribed Keflex and dicloxacillin. I think it's getting a little better, but the area of my nose where the cellulitis started has turned black. Is the black flesh of concern?

Thanks for the query

I have seen the attached photo and it looks like your cellulitis is getting better. The pigmentation mark is left behind because of the infection. I recommend that you approach a dermatologist after your full course of antibiotics, kojic acid ointment can be applied over it to reduce the pigmentation.

I think the black flesh is more than just pigmentation. It's like a scab, except that the area where it is was never really an open wound. It's like the skin has turned hard and black. I don't know much about gangrene, but it looks a little bit like that. Will it eventually fall off as the skin heals?

Gangrene usually develops because of reduced blood supply, in cellulitis there is no such pathology. The skin has turned hard and black because of the infection. Once cellulitis is better,new cells will replace this and it will heal.
