Question: Hi Dr,

I have just been diagnosed with a Cataract in my left eye and I'm concerned my long term use of Sigmacort to treat dry skin on my eye lid has caused this at a young age? I'm 47.

What is an alternative? One of my sons has the same condition.

Brief Answer:
Surgery is required.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to HealthcareMagic.com

Thank you for writing to us.

Long term steroid therapy( Oral or Topical) has been conclusively documented to have caused various deleterious effects.

It may lead to glaucoma or accelerated cataract formation. It leads to posterior subcapsular variety of cataract.

As of now there is no other alternative to cataract treatment apart from surgery.

Kindly visit your ophthalmologist and get a full cataract evaluation done. The timing of surgery depends on the grade of cataract and the symptoms faced by you.

Please get back to us if you have any further queries.

Brief Answer:
soft steroid

Detailed Answer:
Welcome Back,

Steroid remains the mainstay of treatment for conditions like blepharitis.

Though you can try certain home remedies like washing the eye lids with soda bicarbonate or some soft shampoo. Using antidandruff shampoo.

You can ask your doctor to prescribe some soft steroid for you which has less deleterious effects.
