Suggest Treatment For Cat Bite

default
Posted on Tue, 19 Apr 2016
Question: I asked about a cat bite 9 days ago and well I have seen my ortho 5 days ago and he just put me on more antibiotics but that is all. my hand still hurts and I have limited movement. I try to use it but that just makes it hurt more. I also still have some swelling at the wrist. I can't straight my hand all the way out or bend my wrist up or down. I go back to see ortho on the 19 but I am not happy with his treatment as of now should I get a second opinion.?

Brief Answer:
May be serious

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM, I have thoroughly reviewed health query you raised, and well realize all of those concerns
cat bite may be very serious if infection spreads and this should be cautiously handled. These are usually more dangerous bites than dog bites since more aggressive bacterias are found in cats. however, most bites are treated with oral antibiotics even before infection occurs. but if there are signs of infection as in your case, the arm should be immobilized and follow up in 24 hours should be scheduled.if there is progression of infection then you should get antibiotics intravenously, in hospital if possible.
