Question: Hi Dr. Rynne,
I am concerned today about my current health as I noticed today that I have several lumps/bumps beginning on the back of my tongue and they continue back on my tongue going towards my throat. They are significant lumps/bumps and they seem to be pinkish in color. I have been looking on Mayo Clinics' website and WebMD to research my symptoms, however nothing has matched my symptoms yet. I was scared it was Tongue or Throat cancer, but those symptoms seem to involve only one tumor, I have a number of them. I read that it is possible to get Skin Cancer in the mouth, so that may be an idea. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and take Humira,is it a possible aide effect from the medicine? Thank you for your time today with my health question as I am shook up after seeing such a mess in my mouth...

Sincerely,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
The bumps are normal, These are the lymphoid aggregates (tonsil)

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for your query.

From your description, I understand that you are referring to the small elevations (bumps) at the back of the tongue (the base of the tongue).

The tongue is normally bumpy in the posterior 1/3rd part because of the presence of lymphoid aggregates which are called the lingual tonsil, it is similar to the tonsils on either sides of the tongue, but multiple in number and smaller in size.

I can confirm if it is just the lingual tonsil or if there is indeed a swelling if you can upload a picture of the part of the tongue.

However, I am quite confident that you are referring to the lingual tonsil.

I hope this answers your query for now, please upload a photo of the area if you wish.

Good health and warm regards

My husband, came to me about 3 hours ago and said he was in horrible pain. He described pain in his elbow, and extremely painful groin area on the same side of body. He has Rheumatoid Arthritis and is on quite a few medications. He does have a radiculopathy in his cervical spine and has the elbow and shoulder pain before. This week, he had a bout with severe shoulder pain on the opposite side, radiating around his entire left shoulder area, almost causing the shoulder to feel locked. We saw our rheumatologist s partner this week who upped his prednisone to 20mg per day for 10 days. She suggested that perhaps we will want to get xrays if he has more symptoms. I know about his elbow pain caused from the ridiculopathy,as it has before. I just am very concerned about this unbearable pain in the groin.

Hi, I have had mycosis fungicides for nearly 25 years. I have used nitrogen mustard, total body, accutane and interferon injections but now only use methotrexate which keeps skin lessons away. The past 10 years I have been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune disease, sjogrens, fibromalasia along with many infections mostly in the lungs. I feel horrible most of the time and the very worst upon waking in the morning so much so I dread going to sleep. I need help but don t know where to turn

My 14 yr. old is having extreme burping, we have been to the ER and got no results. She was previously diagnosed with a Lyles Heart murmur or musical murmur. She is 5 9 , 138 pounds, active with basketball and dance. She complains of lightheadedness, chest pain in upper left quadrant, left arm pain and she says she feels like her heart is racing at random times. She can t inhale or exhale deeply without burps, and they are constant and persistant. She has had a normal sonogram of the liver, kidneys, gall bladder. Do you have any suggestions? We are frustrated. In the ER she had low potassium and low BUN, she has also been diagnosed with chillblains on the fingers and toes, negative antigen test for Lupus and Rheumatoid arthritis.
