Suggest Treatment For Bump Inside Nostril

Question: Hi, I have a bump inside my nostril painless, towards the front (not along middle nose bone). I showed my dermatologist a while ago. He was not concerned. I later showed my ENT (I was there for another reason). He, etc. seemed to think it was related to a hair follicle and suggested neosporin 2x a day. It never went away. I see this ENT ever year and he always looks at it again as part of my exam as it's in the notes. I've been obsessing about it lately - I have lots of anxiety.

Painless swelling inside the nose could be a blocked sebaceous gland known as epidermoid or sebaceous cyst. Sebaceous glands are the glands in the skin that secrete an oily or waxy matter, called sebum, to lubricate and waterproof the skin and hair. Whenever the opening of the glands get blocked due to some unknown reasons, the production of the sebum continues and gets trapped, hence the ballooning of the gland.

I doubt it is an infection of the hair follicle. In the latter condition, there will be excruciating pain associated with fever and swelling over the affected area.

Thank you. If it doesn't bother me, I can just leave it? Also, I'm not sure if this is totally a coincidence, but I have a tiny pimple on the outside of my nose which never really goes away and it's directly on the opposite side from the inner nostril bump. So I started worrying that maybe this inside bump is growing through my It's very very tiny (the outside bump, flesh toned unless I pick at it).

also I used to pluck my nose hairs often. That probably doesn't help!

Thanks for writing back. I sincerely apologize for the delay in answering your follow-up queries.

1. Do not worry! Epidermoid cyst is a harmless lesion. You should worry, only, if it’s increasing in size.

2. The outside pimple may or may not be related to the swelling inside the nasal cavity. Do not attempt to puncture this, attempting to do so, will cause further scarring and spreading.

3. The sebaceous glands are located adjacent to the hair follicle; hence plucking of the hair doesn't have any effect on the swelling. Kindly, avoid plucking of the hair as this can transmit the bacteria into the damaged area and cause inflammation of the skin.
