Suggest Treatment For Bump In The Groin Area

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Mar 2015
Question: I have a bump on my groin area. I did start plucking hair down in the vaginal area. I have noticed that this bump that looked like a pimple started growing.... and now it is dark purple and red around it due to me squeezing out as much as I can.... At first it was pus and then blood, and now it is very diluted blood. There is a hole in the middle of this bump (which is where the blood started coming out) Please tell me what's going on!

I looked online and this is kind of how it looks like in my groin/bikini area. I only have one.

Brief Answer:
Start oral and topical antibiotic; do not squeeze

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us.

I have taken note of your query and i have also reviewed the image.

It is a furuncle.
It is due to bacterial infection of the skin and soft tissue. Squeezing has probably pushed it deeper.

I suggest a course of an oral antibiotic for a week.
My choice of an oral antibacterial would be either flucloxacillin Or cephalexin for a week.
These are prescription drugs therefore I suggest that you talk to your doctor for the needful.

Topically you may use an OTC topical antibacterial e.g 2% mupirocin ointment, twice daily for a week.

Refrain ftom squeezing it.

An OTC painkiller e.g ibuprofen twice daily would provide symptomatic relief from pain and swelling.

How long will it take for this to go away?

Is there a specific medication (brand names) other than topical antibacterial (2% mupirocin ointment)? Please let me know!

Thank You!

Brief Answer:
Topical Mupirocin is available OTC

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Oral antibiotics are a must.
A week of oral antibiotics would resolve it.

Bactroban ointment is an OTC brand of Mupirocin.
You may also use either Neosporin ointment Or Betadine ointment. These are available OTC.

Kindly check with a drug store.

Is there anyway this will go away with just OTC? I cannot afford a doctor's visit.

Please let me know

Brief Answer:
Topicals alone might be good enough

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Oral antibiotics will certainly cure it faster.

However, topical antibacterials alone might just be good enough for a single infected skin lesion.
Use it twice or thrice daily.

Do not sqeeze.

I have put the topical on the affect area.

However I find it inconvenient to just put the topical cream there.
Is there anyway I can maneuver this somehow?

Please let me know!

Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Need to apply topical antibacterial

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

You need to apply topical antibacterial. This is the only other option other than taking an Oral antibiotic.
Please don't manipulate Or try squeeze. It probably pushed it deeper.

I guess I should clarify what i'm talking about.

I was wondering if I could put a bandaid on there after I have applied the cream. It gets on my clothes after I apply the medication.

Thank You!

Brief Answer:
Cover it with a sterile dressing/ sterile gauze piece

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Apply topical antibiotic & thereafter you may cover it loosely with a sterile gauze piece/ dressing and secure it with a tape.
Always wash your hands with soap and water, before and after touching that area.
Band-aid would be too occlusive and would hinder any pus drainage.
