Suggest Treatment For Bug Bite On The Leg

default
Posted on Wed, 5 Apr 2017
Question: I woke up with something that looked like a bug bite on my leg. It started as a small pale dot about the size of a pencil eraser with a red circle around it about the size of a quarter. Now the pale spot and the red circle are gone and have been replaced with a 3 inch red line about an eighth of an inch wide. The site has been itchy all day

Brief Answer:
consider an oral antihistamine

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Based on the history that you gave, it is likely an insect bite, as you mentioned.

The redness in the picture is due to the body's inflammatory reaction. In addition to the cortisone cream that you are using, you should consider the use of an oral antihistamine such as benadryl, claritine, zyrtec, allegra.

These are over the counter meds and they would reduce the itching. Claritine, allegra or zyrtec are non drowsy.

If there is any pain the use of an anti inflammatory pain medication would help eg naproxen, cataflam, ibuprofen, voltaren.

These anti inflammatory meds would help to get rid of the inflammation even if there is minimal to no discomfort, you can consider using at least one dose of one of these.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
