Brief Answer:
The is no cause for worry. This is very common.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. Usually after a ruptured eardrum, there will be an ear discharge for a few hours. In your case, since there is an infection, the ear discharge may occur for a few days.

2. Do not worry about the ea discharge, whatever the quantity. Gently mop it. Get the ear examined again.

3. After the eardrum ruptures in Acute Otitis Media (AOM), ear pain subsides rapidly. This ear discharge can be cultured. An ear swab should be sent to the lab.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Brief Answer:
PTA. Ear drum should heal in 4-6 weeks. Hearing recovery follows.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. Get a PTA (Pure Tone Audiogram) done. If this shows a pure conductive hearing loss, there is no cause for worry. Other types of losses require immediate treatment.

2. The muffled hearing will last till the ear drum heals. Usually this may take up to 4-6 weeks.

3. Any hearing loss that persists beyond this time should be reassessed. If the ear drum has not healed, it can be repaired surgically.

4. Upload the PTA report for advice on further treatment options.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
