Question: My belly button has been full of puss and my entire core has been sore for the past two weeks. And I have a hard, light brown substance building up inside of it periodically. I went to the doctor a couple weeks ago and he said it was an infection and prescribed me antibiotics. It hasn't gotten better and its been two weeks. Just wondering what it might be

Brief Answer:
Urachus can be the reason.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Can you please attach a photo of it? Do you have recurring bladder infections?

Such belly button discharge and infection can be caused by an urachus. Its a connection between the fetus bladder and umbilical cord. When we are born, this canal usually becomes blinded.
However in some cases, it remains active. If so, recurring umbilicus infections with smelly discharge can appear as well as bladder infections.

To diagnose urachus, abdominal ultrasound should be done. You should also consult urologist if the problem will be coming back.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
