Suggest Treatment For Bronchogenic Carcinoma Followed By An Interstitial Lung Disease
Question: I have been diagnosed with interstitial lung disease due to cancer surgery on my right lung where they removed the frontal, upper, lobe. As a result of that surgery my left lung had a severe, adverse reaction to the surgery which kept me in the critical care unit for 3 weeks because of my blood oxygen dropping like a lead ball when I moved. That was in Sept 2012. I was just diagnosed with the interstitial stuff and have been told a great deal of info and have read a great deal of info but I cannot find any info on life expectancy. I have been told mine is terminal. Can anyone give me a general timeline?

Smoking cessation should be top notch priority.
Good pulmonary hygiene is important.
Supplemental oxygen therapy may be useful for significant hypoxemia (oxygen saturation [SaO2] less than or equal to 88% or PaO2 < 55 mm Hg while breathing room air either at rest or upon exertion).
removal from inhalation exposure is mandatory.
If a toxic medication is suspected, its discontinuation is mandated.
Respiratory infections should be promptly treated.
Pulmonary rehabilitation may improve exercise tolerance and quality of life.
Pharmacologic therapy with corticosteroids (eg, prednisone) and/or cytotoxic agents for their potential steroid-sparing effect (eg, cyclophosphamide, azathioprine, methotrexate) may be indicated for this .
Other immunosuppressive or antifibrotic agents such as colchicine, cyclosporine, and D-penicillamine may have a role and should be considered for the management.
exercise and pulmonary rehabilitation and antioxidants therapies would help too.
