Suggest Treatment For Bronchitis

Posted on Thu, 10 Mar 2016
Question: I have copd and have developed bronchitis over the last week or so. I am also allergic to penicillin. My doctor believes the bronchitis is from bacteria and has prescribed a medication that the prescription information says may cause serious lung problems. Tell your doctor if you develop a cough, shortness of breath or chest pain. All of which I have between the copd and bronchitis. He also prescribed 5 days of prednisone and a pro air inhaler. What would be the best antibiotic, given this information? (The medications is sulfameth trimethoprim 800/160mg TB)

Brief Answer:
You need the same medications as prescribed by your Physician !!!

Detailed Answer:
Warm Welcomes. I appreciate your trust in HCM and assure you are on best portal on the globe for expert online medical services.
I have thoroughly reviewed health query you raised, and well realize all of those concerns. Being your physician, I will take care all of them today and will extend my expertise to solve the problems.

In this scenario Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole ( TMP-SMX ) or Co-Trimoxazole is a good combination drug and is very effective combination of two drugs that act in the same way and enhance the effects of each other in killing the germs causing disease.

Every medication has its own side effects and if we read the side effects and safety profile of medications we can't even take simple looking TYLENOL that we usually take over the counter and use widely.

So, these side effects are not the ones that appear in all the patients and also are associated with many drugs. But we have to see if there is any adverse effect, will that be more dangerous or the infection itself in the first place. So, if the benefits outweigh the risks, we prescribe that medication and take it as safer one as this is beneficial to the patient. No doubt you already have such symptoms which are the side effects of this drug, you still need that to kill bacteria and to stop their enormous growth that can be very dangerous.

Hope I addressed all the concerns you have. Let me know if you have further questions. I will be more than happy to clear any doubts. Please give your 'rating' (if agreed, Five Stars) to help me assist patients in a better way; and, please don't forget to click on 'Close The Discussion'.
For any disease you have, a timely follow-up is necessary regarding the treatment efficacy and to see if there is a need to change treatment options. So keep a follow up to see how you doing (Always write down my name in start of your questions at this forum & I will be with you in no time).
