Question: My son (6 yrs old) has bronchitis asthama, he gets cough and then increased breath rate.
Now he has got breath rate of 40 per minute (But now is not sleeping he is playing at home, he does not sit quite). Doctor normally gives him livolin 0.63 repsules and some times even Budecort 0.5 mg.
I just want to know when we should give Livolin alone and when Livolin with Budecort.
Today is sunday NO doctor available. Please suggest I have started Livolin shall I also start Budecort.

Brief Answer:
Add Budecort too

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcaremagic
Greetings of the day

Dear Mr XXXXXXX

As asthma is associated with hyperactive airway due to inflammation, apart from using Livolin which is bronchidilator, steroid like Budecort also needs to be added for short duration.
Do add Budecort. As the child is otherwise playful there is no cause for concern.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Thanks Doctor
Please also guide how long minimum I have to give Budecort. 2 days / 3days or based on symptoms I can stop Budecort tomorrow.

As on net it shows do not stop abruptly it can worsen the case.

Also please guide I give it using nebulizer, shall I add normal saline to it, if yes how much. The repsule is 2 ml, his age is 6 yrs can I give one complete repsule at a time. Shall I give every 12 hr. If now I give him say at 4 PM for today can I give him second dose at 10 PM.

Brief Answer:
Short term use of Budecort is safe

Detailed Answer:
Dear Mr XXXXXXX

You can use 0.5 ml of repsule and add 1.5 ml normal saline and give it as Nebulization every 8th hourly for 2 days. Also you can use Budecort short term for 2 days. Short term use of inhalation steroid is safe and can be stopped abruptly, there is no need for tapering dose. You can give the dose now and repeat after 8 hours if child is awake.

Thanks Sir
In past, when he was 3 yrs Doctor used to give him 1 Ml 0.5 mg budecort with 2 ml Normal saline. Few months back we also gave him complete repsule of budecort at a time, i.e. 2ml. twice in a day that too without NS. Based on last treatment by doctor and delayed answer from your side, I gave him complete repsule i.e. 2 ml Budecort.
Please guide will it create some major problem. I am worried now, from next time I will give the dose as guided by you.
please do reply. I am worried now.

Brief Answer:
There is no cause for concern

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms XXXXXXX

There is no reason to be worried about. Budecort has high therapeutic index and inhalation form of Steroid does not cause any systemic side effects as the amount of absorption is less.

Rest be assured there is no cause for concern. So continue with the dosage As advised by your physician
