Suggest Treatment For Bronchitis And Severe Cough

default
Posted on Tue, 20 Jan 2015
Question: Hi, I was diagnosed with Bronchitis last Sunday (one week ago) and placed on cephalex and Prednisone. The cough has worsened and it's becoming difficult to get the the phlegm out of my chest. Also, my back and chest are hurting bad from coughing so much. I've become dizzy from coughing so much and have had to sit down and rest. I'm worried that it may have gotten worse... Also, just took my temperature and it was 96.5. I consistently run normal 98.6. Should I see a doc again?

Brief Answer:
yes, kindly get back to your doctor.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to HCM forum.
Thanks for posting to us.

Sorry to hear that your symptoms has got worse.
Increasing cough and a lower than normal body temperature indicates resistance to the given antibiotics and progressive infection.
This needs reevaluation with careful chest examination and an x ray, followed by review of antibiotics. So kindly get back to your doctor without further delay.

Meanwhile you can stop prednisolone (better to avoid in presence of progressive infection as it has immune lowering effect), take antihistamine like levocetirezine 5mgonce daily (can decrease secretions and relieve cough) and do steam inhalation. Also, avoid exposure to cold and dust.

Hope this answer will help.
Be free to ask if you need further clarification.
Wishing for a faster cure.
Thank you.
