Suggest Treatment For Breathing Difficulty Post Sinus Infection

Question: Hello Dr.,

I have been on CPAP for about five months with AHI events usually under 1. This morning, my machine had a 2% periodic breathing rate reported. I never had any value be reported in periodic breathing (always 0%). I just got back on cpap after almost 3 weeks off due to a very bad sinus infection that swelled up my sinuses completely. I also got hooked on afrin trying to keep them clear to be able to use CPAP which made my sinuses even worst. I'm now afrin free and able to use the cpap without much congestion. Should I worry about this 2% reading or could it have been an erroneous reading? It seems I dont have any underlying health issues based on my most recent normal echo and ekg (less than 1 month ago). Thoughts?

Brief Answer:
Do not worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for your query.
2% periodic breathing with ahi less than 1 is not to worry at all.
Some times post sinus infection, you can have periodic breathing.
Since ahi score is less than 1, it signifies normal breathing.
You can continue using CPAP machine.
Hope my answers have helped you. Thanks.
