Question: My mother, 77, is having some difficulty breathing. There is a wheezing in her
lungs and she needs inhalers and must sleep sitting up. Her doctor told her it
seems to start every August in Pennsylvania. Would it be some type of allergy
and how could it be treated?

Brief Answer:
Supportive care , needs work up and management.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Difficulty breathing with wheezing at age of 77 every august of the year is likely a seasonal allergies affecting airways and needs anti allergics along with bronchodilators, allergen immunotherapy, avoidance of allergens and humidified air to breath in. More importantly other sinister causes of dyspnea ( difficulty breathing) like heart failures or lungs parenchymal disease like asthma, chronic bronchitis etc should be considered and be worked up for and clinically correlated. ECG, echo, lung functions test must be done.

I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan
