Posted on Mon, 8 Jun 2015
Question: I think I have a brain fog. I am not as mentally sharp as I used to be two years ago. It takes me lot of days to handle a new role in career. I am just getting frustrated. I was brilliant but now I am just below an average man. What is happening to me ? I am planning to take some brain booster vitamins. What do you suggest me ?

1. do you also have difficulty in remembering things ?
Yes, but not much.
2. Do you feel less alert than usual ?
yes
3. Do you have trouble sleeping ? how many hours are you sleeping in a day ?
I have no sleeping problem. I can sleep longer if I want to. But usually I sleep more than 7 hours/day.
4. Are you on any recreational drugs ?
No. I am addicted to coffee only. two cup of coffee is a must. I noticed that coffee also makes my ear less sensitive to voice. I mean less hearing ability than I had before the coffee or after 3 hours after coffee. I drink two beers four times a week but I can skip this. I am not taking any medication or drugs.
5. do you snore at night ?
Yes, I snore.

Brief Answer:
Obstructive sleep apnea

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for getting back with the details. I am sorry for the short delay in my response, I just got back from the hospital.

The reason for your brain fog is most likely to be obstructive sleep apnea. I have seen several of my patients having similar symptoms like you and most of them had osa.
The other possibility is thyroid dysfunction, hypothyroidism can cause brain fog.
Rare possibilities are vitamin b12 deficiency and trace nutrient deficiency

Here is how you should go about it

1. go to a sleep clinic for an exam to rule out osa
2. get a thyroid profile done
3. twice a day coffee is fine, you don't have to cut down on that

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

regards
